What a year it’s been at Bendigo Kangan Institute.

From skilling thousands of people to launching new campuses, delivering impactful projects and planning for what’s next, our integrated skills organisation has been making things happen. Let’s take a look at 15 of the coolest things we got up to in 2024!

Trained 34,000+ students!

Among them were 5,300+ Free TAFE students kicking off their career journeys. Our students were of all ages (with 77 students aged 70 or older!), from 140+ countries and spoke 116 languages – our training impacts lives, everywhere.

Victoria’s largest provider of apprenticeships

Hello 2,200+ new apprentices and trainees! From plumbing to digital, nursing to electrical, and more, we’ve been laying the foundations (literally and theoretically) for the next gen workforce.

Largest corrections training provider

We expanded our reach in corrections education with a new contract. Helping to support individuals, families and communities to reduce the likelihood of recidivism and create opportunities.

New campuses underway

We're sharing the TAFE love (and training) with Hume, Melton, Sunbury and Castlemaine – so more people can access opportunities for the skills they need and want, closer to home.

8,700+ people visited our Skills and Jobs Centres

We’re about bringing people and skills together to build rewarding careers. We’ve helped thousands with advice to take their next step. Our Echuca team even got a big shout out for their regional impact.

Supported 3,000+ students

It’s not just about getting students through the door. It’s about supporting them through their journey. We hosted student events, offered guidance and counselling with aim of providing the best experience possible.

Student satisfaction is strong at 80%

That’s above the Victorian average – and to make sure their voices are heard we introduced student ambassadors. They’re out there leading and representing our students.

Staff satisfaction was boosted

We celebrated our people with our first (ever!) all staff conference and we earned Mental Health First Aid Australia’s Skilled Organisation badge. Yeah, we’re that kind of workplace.

55,000+ skills assessments

That’s 55,000 people we’re helping to succeed on their migration journey. Plus, we gathered the best of the best in skilled migration at our first ever Allyship conference, sharing innovations and insights to help our customers thrive in their new home.

 17 awards

We’re cool and calm (or high-fiving and wide-grinned smiling) about chalking up 17 awards this year from student achievements to staff accolades and organisational success. That’s a whole lotta recognition for a whole lotta hard work.

So many new relationships

With 180 new connections and innovative projects and partnerships, we are excited about the future! We’re already on the right track, with an improved satisfaction rate of 72.7% with apprentice and trainee employers!

Working towards our new Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan

We also celebrated First Nations training excellence at various award ceremonies. We are walking the walk when it comes to reconciliation.

Diversity and inclusion is always top of mind

We’re making all voices heard, valued and uplifted in everything we do. We had the Public Sector Gender Equality Commissioner visit us and our gender equality progress report is compliant, YES!

International visitors, yep we had those too

Our horizons are looking pretty vast right now, thanks to all our existing and new international friends. We’ve been exchanging insights, and ideas - expanding our global reach.

Skills expansion galore

We’re talking new equipment, student showcases and new courses, like a regional-first construction course for female and gender diverse learners in Castlemaine! When it comes to skills we’re about believing big.

And that’s just the tip of the Bendigo Kangan Institute iceberg. It’s been a year of purpose, activity and impact with significant strategic advancements.

We’re grabbing our party hats to celebrate everything we’ve accomplished and be ready to launch into 2025 with our new and ambitious 2030 Strategic Plan.

We’ll be bigger, better, bolder and ready to deliver for our communities (that’s all of you!) now and with a strong vision for the future.

Here’s to a new year full of opportunities, achievements and a whole lot of growth and impact.
