Bendigo TAFE has committed itself to improving access to education and meaningful employment in its Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), launched today.
The Innovate RAP would act as a roadmap for the organisation in working towards a reconciled, just and equitable Australia, Bendigo TAFE chief executive Sally Curtain said.
“Educational organisations such as Bendigo TAFE have an obligation to be informed and involved in reconciliation. But it is more than an obligation – it is the right thing to do,” Ms Curtain said.
“Reconciliation is an essential process in the healing of our national soul.”
An Innovate RAP outlines actions that work towards achieving an organisation’s unique vision for reconciliation.
Bendigo TAFE will play a key role in reconciliation by ensuring that its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and students are fully engaged in education, employment and training.
“I have high ambitions for this Reconciliation Action Plan. It will drive meaningful and lasting change and, I hope, will become an example for other educational organisations,” Ms Curtain said.
The Reconciliation Action Plan outlines Bendigo TAFE’s practical commitments to:
- Restoring First Nations people to a place of equity.
- Work towards ensuring that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures be fully valued by all.
- Work towards restoring broken relationships and eradicating social inequalities.
- Contribute to reducing the historical gap of social and economic disadvantage.
- Building relationships, respect and opportunities in a way that’s accountable.
- Ensure cultural awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student needs.
