Creative building designs on show at Bendigo TAFE

Bendigo TAFE’s building design students are putting their talent on display at the End of Year Student Exhibition starting on Monday.

Held at Bendigo TAFE’s City Campus, the exhibition will showcase designs created by students completing the Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural) (22477VIC), including award-winning designs by students John Quinlan and Aaron Arbuckle who were recognised at the 2022 Design Matters National Student Design Awards.

Mr Quinlan, 36, who won Best Response to a Design Brief by Building Design Student and Best Digital Presentation, said the exhibition was an opportunity to share his designs with the community.

“I feel quite chuffed to have my work featured at the TAFE student exhibition, alongside the other graduates. I think it's a fantastic opportunity for us students to take our work out of the academic context to share it with friends, family, and the public and to hopefully get a range of different feedback,” he said.

Mr Quinlan said his TAFE education has helped him pursue a career as an architectural technician.

“It equipped me with the professional qualification that I needed to embark on a career in the industry, which consequently empowered me to acquire a position with Y2 Architecture,” he said.

“The course gave me the fundamental skillset in design principles and strategies, compliance issues relating to topics such as building regulations and meeting local and state planning provisions, and a working understanding of crucial software programs for drafting and documentation. I use every aspect of my education at Y2 Architecture every day.”

Bendigo TAFE CEO Sally Curtain said the exhibition was a gateway to the ideas and creativity of the new generation of building designers.

“Our students have worked incredibly hard all year and this exhibition captures the essence of their skills, expertise and innovation. We are incredibly proud of our students and we welcome the community to visit and witness their creativity,” Ms Curtain said.

The exhibition is open to the public and free of charge:

When:    Monday 14 November – Friday 25 November 2022, 9am – 4pm (Open on weekdays only)
