New Board appointment sees local leader shape Bendigo's education future

Bendigo TAFE announces the appointment of Craig Niemann to the Bendigo Kangan Institute Board of Directors.

Mr Niemann brings a proven track record in local government leadership and a deep connection to the Bendigo and wider Loddon Mallee community. His experience spans four decades in local government, with his most recent role as Chief Executive Officer of the City of Greater Bendigo, a position held for 16 years.

As one of Australia's leading and most trusted integrated skills providers, Bendigo Kangan Institute consists of four brands – regional and metropolitan TAFE brands Bendigo TAFE and Kangan Institute, skills assessment agency VETASSESS and learning management platform provider eWorks.

Mr Niemann joins the Board in driving the growth and impact of Bendigo Kangan Institute’s four brands, in line with the organisation’s soon-to-launch 2025-2030 strategic plan.

The Board will also lead the progress of major projects underway, including:

• A new Bendigo TAFE Community Health and Learning Hub in Castlemaine, in partnership with Dhelkaya Health.

• New Kangan Institute campuses in Sunbury and Melton, as well as a Tech School in Hume.

Mr Niemann’s expertise strongly aligns to the institute’s current trajectory, bringing to the table extensive experience in growing the Greater Bendigo municipality and overseeing major capital projects, including Bendigo Airport, Ulumbarra Theatre, Gurri Wanyarra Aquatic and Wellbeing Centre and Bendigo Stadium.

Mr Niemann’s term began on 1 November 2024, joining the existing Board, led by Chairperson Sharan Burrow AC and Deputy Chairperson Professor Hal Swerissen to guide the organisation to deliver on its strategic goals.
