What is School Based Education support?

Education support staff fall into all different categories and often known as a teachers/integration aides. These can include:

  • Learning support
  • Wellbeing support
  • Administration duties
  • Inclusion support
  • OSHC worker

What skills will you gain?

Certificate III in School Based Education Support (CHC30221)

In this course you will learn a range of skills including:

  • supporting students to build literacy and numeracy skills
  • supporting students with additional needs in the classroom environment
  • assisting with planned educational programs
  • working with students and colleagues

Certificate IV in School Based Education Support (CHC40221)

In this course you will learn how to:

  • work with students who need additional support
  • identify and respond to children and young people at risk
  • assist students with their learning
  • facilitate learning for students with disabilities
  • support the behaviour of children and young people
  • use an e-learning management system

Learning Beyond the Classroom

One of the key strengths of this course is the combination of classroom learning and real-world experience.

 Through practical placements in local schools, students can learn the skills to work independently, or within a team environment in either Primary or Secondary school settings. 

There’s a high demand for education support staff, so you won’t have to wait long before you’re in the education environment making a difference.

Pathways in School Based Education Support

There are several options available to get you started:

  • Begin with the Certificate III in School Based Education Support (CHC30221)e 
  • Once you have completed the Certificate III in School Based Education Support (CHC30221) you will gain nine credit transfers into the Certificate IV in School Based Education Support (CHC40221).
  • If you are still wanting to further your studies, then you can apply for the Diploma of Education with a guaranteed place after completing the Certificate IV in School Based Education Support (CHC40221).
  • After completing the Diploma of Education, this will take a year off your studies if you are wanting to further your studies into the Bachelor of Education.
