Architectus - First Nation Architectural Support Scholarship

The First Nations Architectural Support Scholarship offers scholarships to disadvantaged First Nation students who demonstrate a passion for the Building and Construction industry and the commitment and motivation required to complete their training successfully.

The program awards scholarships to students who are facing difficult circumstances that are preventing or have prevented them in some way from being able to undertake vocational training.

Eligible Courses

1.       Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural) (22477VIC)

2.       Certificate IV in Business (BSB40120) - Currently not offered at Bendigo TAFE

3.       Diploma of Graphic Design (CUA50720) 

Eligibility/ Selection Criteria

To be eligible for the First Nations Architectural Support Scholarship, the following criteria are required:

1. Must be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person

2. Aged 16 years and over

3. Passionate about the building and construction industry and excited about a career in Building design and graphics

4. Available to commence study in 2023

5. Can demonstrate initiative and commitment to excel in the building and construction industry.

6. Have suffered some form of hardship (i.e., financial, educational, familial, personal, or other disadvantages) that is preventing or has prevented them in some way from being able to undertake the courses mentioned above.

7. Provide evidence of financial or personal disadvantage. Disadvantage(s) may include:

a. financial difficulty or low-socioeconomic status (Centrelink statement, payslips. Bank statements can be used if the evidence is displayed in a personal statement)

b. disability or medical condition

c. delay or interruption to career or studies because of family responsibilities or illness      

8. You have been accepted onto the course

Value

This scholarship can provide local students with a waiver or a reduction of their course fees. Course fees are comprised of several items, including tuition and non-tuition costs. This scholarship does not assist with stationary or computer equipment required to complete work and assignments. 

• $5,000 each ($10k) available for two first nations students studying the Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural).

How to Apply 

Applicants must complete an online application and submit it with all supporting documentation before the course start date. Incomplete applications will be sent back to be completed. 

Terms and Conditions

1.       The scholarship can provide a reduction or waiver of tuition, student services fee and other related educational expense for the year of study at Kangan Institute.

2.       Scholarships will be awarded based on eligibility criteria, individual needs, and course acceptance.

3.       The application does not mean the applicant will automatically be granted a scholarship. Your application does not guarantee you a place in your selected course.

4.       Deferring the course will make the scholarship void.

5.       The scholarship is to be used for one course and cannot be transferred to another course.
Scholarships are not redeemable for cash and cannot be used to pay a deposit on a Payment Pan.

6.       If students fail a unit of competency from the course, they will incur any enrolment or other fees associated with resitting that unit.

7.       If a concession card reduces fees that have already been paid, then any scholarships that have been provided may need to be reduced or cancelled.

8.       All applicants are asked to investigate whether it may be possible for them to use the Payment Plan to pay and enrol before using this scholarship option. This will involve providing information on why the Payment Plan option may not be feasible.
